 Misc. Convoy Voyages:
For information on voyages made in between those mentioned here, please see the archive documents and A. Hague's Voyage Record above. Follow the convoy links provided for more details; the Commodore's notes are also available for some of them, and several Norwegian ships took part.

With a cargo of paper and resin for Glasgow, Inger Lise is listed in station 12 of Convoy HX 27 from Halifax to the U.K. on March 13-1940. It looks like this voyage had started out in Georgetown, S.C. on March 6 - see Page 1 of the archive documents. Towards the end of May, she was briefly in Convoy OA 156, which left Southend on May 27 and was dispersed 3 days later. She was bound for Bordeaux at the time, arriving there on June 1. The Norwegian Akershus, Bjørkhaug, Ruth I and Varangberg are also listed (see the external link within the table above).

A French visitor to my website has told me that Inger Lise sailed from Gibraltar on June 19-1940 in an unnumbered convoy (ships evacuated in emergency from Brest) under French escort and was at Oran June 20; if this is correct, she barely avoided being interned, like so many other Norwegian ships at that time. Going back to the archive document mentioned above, we see that she had arrived Gibraltar from Bordeaux on June 19 (A. Hague has her in Convoy 64 X for this voyage, along with Europe, Oria and Vigør - the latter 2 were interned); Oran is not mentioned on the document, which indicates her original destination was Sete, but she was diverted at Gibraltar for Baddeck, C.B., and left Gibraltar on June 22, with arrival Baddeck July 5 - according to A. Hague's Voyage Record, she had indeed made a voyage Gibraltar-Oran and back to Gibraltar before proceeding to Baddeck.

With a cargo of lumber for Aberdeen, she was scheduled to head back to the U.K. in Convoy HX 58 from Halifax on July 15-1940. From Page 1, we learn that she did not arrive Halifax from Baddeck until July 16, so she instead joined Convoy HX 59 on the 19th and arrived Aberdeen on Aug. 4. She had station 42 of the convoy, sailing right next to the Norwegian Belinda and Siremalm. The following month, we find her, together with Tarifa, Temeraire and Victo, in Convoy OA 208, which left Methil on Sept. 2 and dispersed on the 6th, Inger Lise arriving Reykjavik on Sept. 8, remaining there for about a month. On Oct. 10, she proceeded to Sydney, C.B. (according to A. Hague, this voyage was made independently), with arrival Oct. 24, continuing the next day to Les Mechins, then on to St. Annes de Montes and Cape Chatte, before returning to Sydney, C.B. There's an indication in the notes on the original document for the slow Sydney (C.B.)-U.K. Convoy SC 13 that she had been scheduled to sail in Convoy HX 87, but she instead joined the SC convoy on Nov. 22, cargo of lumber for King's Lynn. According to A. Hague's Voyage Record, she arrived that destination, via Clyde and Methil, on Dec. 29.

At the beginning of 1941, she's listed, along with Evita and Haakon Hauan, in Convoy OB 277, which originated in Liverpool on Jan. 22 and dispersed on the 27th, Inger Lise arriving Halifax Febr. 7; she had started out from Oban on Jan. 24, see Page 2. With a cargo of lumber for Boston, Lincs., she was scheduled for the Halifax-U.K. Convoy HX 112 on March 1 (Beduin and Ferm were sunk, among others - follow the links for details), but did not sail, and was also cancelled from HX 113 a few days later. She eventually got away in HX 114 on March 11 (Hidlefjord was sunk and Kaia Knudsen damaged, again, follow the links for more info). Her destination is now given as Hull, station 24. However, it looks like she must have had problems keeping up in the fog and gales experienced, because on March 24 she was sent to join up with the slow Convoy SC 25; she arrived Hull on Apr. 7. With Haakon Hauan, Sandar and Victo, she later joined Convoy OB 313, which originated in Liverpool Apr. 22 and dispersed on the 28th, Inger Lise arriving Halifax May 8 (she had sailed from Oban on Apr. 23), heading back in the other direction again on May 20 in Convoy HX 128. On this occasion she had a cargo of lumber and was sailing in station 63, but due to her slow speed she left this convoy after a few days and joined the slower Convoy SC 32 instead.

She later made a voyage to Lisbon, having sailed in Convoy OG 67, which left Milford Haven on July 3-1941 and arrived Gibraltar on July 20; Inger Lise had sailed from Oban July 5 and arrived Lisbon on the 19th. This convoy will be added to an individual page in my Convoys section in due course, but for now, the ships sailing in it (among them Dux and Kos VIII) are named on the page listing ships in all OG convoys. According to A. Hague, she subsequently returned to the U.K. with Convoy HG 70, leaving Gibraltar on Aug. 9, arriving Liverpool on the 23rd (Dux is also named). Inger Lise, cargo of iron ore, serving as Rear Commodore Ship, stopped at Belfast Lough on Aug. 20, proceeding to Swansea the next day (Page 2). We now find her in the westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 12, which originated in Liverpool on Sept. 1. Inger Lise started out from Milford Haven on Aug. 31 and arrived Sydney, C.B. Sept. 21, the convoy having been dispersed on the 14th. From Sydney, she continued to Rimouski that same day, then back to Sydney, C.B. in order join Convoy SC 48 on Oct. 5, in which several ships were sunk, including Erviken, Rym, Ila and Barfonn - follow the links for details. Inger Lise again had a cargo of lumber, destination Boston, Lincs., station 25. Cruising order/Commodore's notes as well as misc. reports are also available for this convoy - Inger Lise's voyages in this period are shown on Page 3. The document also lists some 1942 voyages, while convoy info can be found in A. Hague's record above.

Skipping now to Apr.-1942, when she's listed in the westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 88* (originated in Liverpool on Apr. 21 - Inger Lise sailed from Clyde, Apr. 22 - see Page 4). She was bound for Halifax, where she arrived, via Sheet Harbour, on May 11, and just a few days later we find her, with wood pulp for Grimsby, in Convoy SC 84, leaving Halifax on May 14. She subsequently went back to Halifax with Convoy ON 108*, which originated in Liverpool on June 30; Inger Lise sailed from Loch Ewe that day and arrived Halifax July 15. Having made voyages to Nelson, N.B. and Chatham, N.B., she proceeded to Sydney, C.B., and from there, she joined the slow Convoy SC 94 on July 31, cargo of lumber for Preston, with arrival Aug. 15. As will be seen, when following the link, several ships were sunk, including the British Trehata, from which Inger Lise had rescued the survivors - ref. external link at the end of this page. At the end of that month I have her in station 82 of the westbound Convoy ON 126, for which the Norwegian Rena served as Commodore Vessel. Inger Lise lost touch with this convoy in fog on Sept. 6, but arrived Sydney, C.B. safely on Sept. 15.

According to A. Hague, she headed back to the U.K. on Oct. 7, joining Convoy SC 104*, which had originated in New York on Oct. 3 and arrived Liverpool on the 21st; Inger Lise joined from Sydney, C.B. and arrived Oban Oct. 22 (Page 4). Fagersten and Senta and several others were sunk; follow the links for more info. Also, my page about Potentilla has an eye witness account of the battle. Acanthus, Eglantine and Montbretia are also named among the escorts - see SC convoy escorts. Inger Lise returned across the Atlantic in Convoy ON 148* the following month (convoy originated in Liverpool on Nov. 23 and arrived New York on Dec. 13 - Inger Lise joined from Loch Ewe).

The rest of her voyages are shown on Page 5, Page 6, Page 7 and Page 8 - convoy information for some of these is available in the Voyage Record above.

*The ON convoys mentioned here are available and will be added to individual pages in my Convoys section in due course, along with further details on each. In the meantime, the ships sailing in them (and escorts) are named in the section listing ships in all ON convoys. As will be seen, several Norwegian ships took part. The entire SC series will also be updated and completed, but for now, please see ships in all SC convoys for the names of other ships sailing in SC 104.

For more information on all the other Norwegian ships mentioned on this page, please see the alphabet index below, or go to the Master Ship Index.

 POST WAR:

Sailed as Blink for K. Th. Einersen, Oslo from Aug.-1947. Sold in July-1950 to Birger Pedersen & Søns Rederi A/S, Haugesund and renamed Bro in 1951. In seasonal lumber trade. Abandoned off Portugal on Nov. 21-1962, listing heavily, on a voyage Sevilla-Rotterdam. In Apr.-1967, while unloading cargo at Storesund a fire broke out in the boiler room. Damaged and laid up at Smedasund, Haugesund. Sold "as is" in June-1967 to Gothenburg and used as "storage vessel". Delivered to Breakers in Santander, Spain in June-1968. (See also this external page, which has slightly different history details).
