This book indicates she was managed by Trygve Eriksen from 1934 (this may have something to do with the fact that John K. Haaland died around that time?).

In the course of 1939 most of the Norwegian crew was replaced with a Chinese one (32 in all). On Apr. 9-1940, when the war started in Norway, Utsire was in Vladivostok, then departed for Hong Kong the next day, arriving there on the 17th. Captain was Karl Johnsen. In service India/Burma from the summer of 1940. (She was in Calcutta in June-1941 - ref. text for Ida Bakke).
