CONVOY HX 336
Departed New York City on Febr. 2-1945 and arrived Liverpool on the 14th.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 47 ships in this convoy.

Transcribed from several documents received from Tony Cooper (Advance Sailing Telegram) - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.
Details re. Arctic convoys were found in "Convoys to Russia 1941-1945" by Bob Ruegg and Arnold Hague.

The station numbers and cargoes for the tankers have been extracted from a document received from D. Kindell, based on the late Arnold Hague's database - see his listing for Convoy HX 336 at Ships in all HX convoys.

Crossed out ships did not sail.

For info, some of the ships listed as cancelled from this convoy had previously arrived with the westbound Convoy ON 278. See also ON 270 and ON 277.

Notes:
Commodore, Captain S. N. White, R.N.R. was in the Norwegian John Bakke. Accordingto A. Hague, Vice Commodore was the captain of Avristan.

Commodore's notes are not available.

Dettifoss, 1300 tons of general cargo for Iceland via Belfast Lough, did not make it to her destination. She was sunk by U-1064 on Febr. 21-1945, when en route to Iceland with Convoy UR 155. She had a crew of 31 and 14 passengers - 12 crew and 3 passengers lost their lives. (Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two", Jürgen Rohwer and "Lloyd's War Losses", Vol I). More details are available via the external link provided below.

The Rescue Vessel Accrington was on her 16th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde with the westbound Convoy ON 278 on Jan. 13-1945, to Halifax Jan. 27 - returning with Convoy HX 336 from Halifax on Febr. 4, to Clyde Febr. 16. Her previous voyage had been with Convoys ONS 36 / HX 326. ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague).

A. Hague names the following escorts (extracted from this list of HX convoy escorts received from D. Kindell; dates are European style, day/month/year):

Liberty Ships - This website has been used to check the spelling of all the Liberty ships mentioned in this convoy (convoy docs don't always have the correct spelling, or they may be difficult to decipher). A few of them had just been delivered. Unfortunately, the list no longer appears to be included at this site (unfortunate, because I have 100's of links to it from my website). If I remember correctly, that particular section was hosted by Peter Thompson, who has now moved to a different site, but I cannot find his list of Liberty Ships. I'll leave the link up for now until I can find out whether it's still available somewhere. I did find an identical page here, but as will be seen, the alphabetical links receive an error.
