CONVOY HX 334
Departed New York City on Jan. 23-1945 and arrived Liverpool on Febr. 6.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 74 ships in this convoy.
Transcribed from several documents received from Tony Cooper (Advance Sailing Telegram) - His source: Public Records Office, Kew. The station numbers and cargoes for the tankers have been extracted from a document received from D. Kindell, based on the late Arnold Hague's database - see his listing for Convoy HX 334 at Ships in all HX convoys.

Also, the Rescue Vessel Gothland (station 87) - see Notes below.
A. Hague has also included the British Fort Townshend in the Halifax portion - station 44, bound for St. John's, N.F. with general cargo - again, see his listing for Convoy HX 334 at Ships in all HX convoys. This ship is not mentioned in the Advance Sailing Telegram. |
Notes: Commodore's notes are not available. The Rescue Vessel Gothland was on her 17th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde with the westbound Convoy ONS 39 on Dec. 28-1944, to Halifax Jan. 13-1945 - returning with HX 334 from Halifax on Jan. 25, to Clyde Febr. 6-1945. Her previous voyage had been with Convoy ONS 35 / HX 322. ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague). A. Hague names the following escorts (extracted from this list of HX convoy escorts received from D. Kindell; dates are European style, day/month/year): Related external links: Liberty Ships - Most of the ships listed as American in the table above were Liberty ships. This website listed them alphabetically. Unfortunately, the list no longer appears to be included at this site (unfortunate, because I have 100's of links to it from my website). If I remember correctly, that particular section was hosted by Peter Thompson, who has now moved to a different site, but I cannot find his list of Liberty Ships. I'll leave the link up for now until I can find out whether it's still available somewhere. I did find an identical page here, but as will be seen, the alphabetical links receive an error. List of Liberty Ships by Hull No. - Includes info on the men and women for whom the ships were named (from Wikipedia). The Empire Ships - Also has a section listing the "Sam"-ships, and other Liberty ships. To the next HX convoy in my list HX 335 |
