CONVOY HX 339
Advance Sailing Telegram gives departure New York on Febr. 17-1945.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 79 ships in this convoy, w/departure Febr. 18 - arrived Liverpool March 3.

Transcribed from several documents received from Tony Cooper (Advance Sailing Telegram) - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.
Details re. Arctic convoys were found in "Convoys to Russia 1941-1945" by Bob Ruegg and Arnold Hague.

Crossed out ships did not sail.

The station numbers and cargoes for the tankers have been extracted from a document received from D. Kindell, based on the late Arnold Hague's database - see his listing for Convoy HX 339 at Ships in all HX convoys.

See also westbound convoys from the same time period, for instance ON 277 and ON 278

A. Hague has also included the British Fort Townshend and Menelaus in this convoy - Fort Townshend was bound for Halifax only with general cargo in station 27 and Menelaus in station 57 (in ballast), also for Halifax. Also, he says the British Pardo joined at sea on March 1-1945. Again, see his listing for HX 339 at Ships in all HX convoys. These ships are not mentioned in the Advance Sailing Telegram.

Liberty Ships - This website has been used to check the spelling of all the Liberty ships listed in this convoy (convoy docs don't always have the correct spelling, or they may be difficult to decipher). A few of them had just been delivered in Jan.-1945. Unfortunately, the list no longer appears to be included at this site (unfortunate, because I have 100's of links to it from my website). If I remember correctly, that particular section was hosted by Peter Thompson, who has now moved to a different site, but I cannot find his list of Liberty Ships. I'll leave the link up for now until I can find out whether it's still available somewhere. I did find an identical page here, but as will be seen, the alphabetical links receive an error.
The 2 websites below have been used for the same purpose.
