Commodore was in Edward A Savoy, Vice Commodore in Empire Celia, and Rear Commodore in John J Abel. Some of the above ships had started the voyage in the White Sea on Oct. 30. The Norwegian Noreg and the British Laurelwood were escort oilers. None of the above were lost, but the frigate Mounsey was torpedoed (by U-295) and had to return to Kola. (Later joined Convoy RA 62). Syrian Prince was on her 6th voyage as Rescue Vessel, having started this voyage at Loch Ewe with Convoy JW 61 on Oct. 20, to Kola Inlet Oct. 28, then returned with RA 61 from Kola Nov. 2 - to Clyde Nov. 10. Escorts (same as for JW 61): Related externa link: To the next RA convoy in my list RA 62 |
