From HX 301
Joined from St. John's, N. F. |
Notes: From Charles Stobbard I've received the following re the M.A.C. ships (some of which are listed in the above table): There were nine Anglo Saxon tankers converted. ACAVUS (MAC1), ADULA (MAC2), ALEXIA (MAC3), AMASTRA (MAC4), ANCYLUS (MAC5), GADILA (MAC6) Dutch, MACOMA (MAC7) Dutch, MIRALDA (MAC8), RAPANA (MAC9), in addition the following 4 ships were also MAC ships, purpose built and converted to tankers after the war. Empire MacMahon, Empire MacKay, Empire MacColl, Empire MacCabe. Incidently the Gadila and Macoma were the first Dutch Aircraft carriers". The Rescue Vessel Melrose Abbey was on her 15th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde with the westbound Convoy ON 244 on July 10-1944, to Halifax July 21 - returning with HX 302 from Halifax on Aug. 5, to Clyde Aug. 16 ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague). Please note that more information on all the Norwegian ships listed in this convoy can be found with the help of the index below. Related external links: To the next HX convoy in my list HX 303 |
