CONVOY HX 330
Departed New York City on Jan. 3-1945 and arrived Liverpool on the 17th.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 45 ships in this convoy.

Transcribed from several documents received from Tony Cooper (Advance Sailing Telegram) - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.

The station numbers and cargoes for the tankers have been extracted from a document received from D. Kindell, based on the late Arnold Hague's database - see his listing for Convoy HX 330 at Ships in all HX convoys.

Crossed out ships did not sail.

Info re. Russian convoys has been added with the help of "Convoys to Russia", Arnold Hague and Bob Ruegg.

* This ships is listed as American John H. Price in the Advance Sailing Telegram, 7176 gt. There was a British ship by this name, but only of 1905 gt, and my guess is this is a mis-spelling of the Liberty Ship James H. Price, which shows up again in the next convoy.

Notes:
Commodore, Rear Admiral E. W. Leir was in the Norwegian Topdalsfjord. According to A. Hague, Vice Commodore was the captain of Northia. Commodore's notes are not available.

A. Hague says that the British Destiny, cargo of petrol, was involved in a collision on Jan. 18.

The Rescue Vessel Melrose Abbey was on her 18th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde on Dec. 13-1944 with the westbound Convoy ON 272, to Halifax Dec. 30, then returned to Clyde with Convoy HX 330, Jan. 5-Jan. 17-1945. Her previous eastbound voyage had been with Convoy HX 320. ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague).

A. Hague names the following escorts (extracted from this list of HX convoy escorts received from D. Kindell; dates are European style, day/month/year):

Liberty Ships - The majority of the ships listed as American in the table above were Liberty ships. Unfortunately, the list no longer appears to be included at this site (unfortunate, because I have 100's of links to it from my website). If I remember correctly, that particular section was hosted by Peter Thompson, who has now moved to a different site, but I cannot find his list of Liberty Ships. I'll leave the link up for now until I can find out whether it's still available somewhere. I did find an identical page here, but as will be seen, the alphabetical links receive an error.

However, here's another

This site has more on the the "Park" ships mentioned in this convoy.
The Empire Ships website has a section listing the "Sam"-ships, and other Liberty ships.
