 Some War Voyages:
(More will be added).

Havmøy is mentioned in connection with the ships going out to form Convoy SC 80 in Apr.-1942, but I'm not entirely sure she was actually scheduled for this convoy, as she's not mentioned in the Advance Sailing Telegram for SC 80. She's also mentioned in Convoy HX 198 in July-1942, but again, I'm not 100% sure this is correct.

Note that by following the instructions provided at the first external link below, several convoys will come up. From this, it looks like she was mostly in service around North America/Canada in 1942 (U.S. ports, Sydney, C.B., St. John's, N.F., Halifax etc.), until Sept. that year, when she's said to have made a voyage to Greenland in Convoy SG 7, which left Sydney, C.B. on Sept. 4-1942. She returned with Convoy GS 11, departing Greenland on Oct. 19-1942, arriving St. John's on the 24th (the Norwegian Brush is also listed). In Dec. that year she made another voyage to Greenland in Convoy SG 15, which left St. John's on Dec. 12-1942 and arrived Ivigtut (mining town) on the 19th. The Norwegian Aragon, Brush, and Gudvor are also included. Together with Aragon, Bencas, Carmelfjell and Ørnefjell, she headed back to St. John's in Febr.-1943 with Convoy GS 20, departing Greenland on Febr. 22, arriving St. John's on the 28th.

More St. John's, Halifax, Sydney, C.B., Father Point etc. voyages now followed, until the summer of 1943 when she's said to have made another voyage to Greenland with Convoy SG 28, which left St. John's on July 15 and arrived Greenland on the 19th, and in which the Norwegian Annik, Aun, Carmelfjell, Gudvor, Iris, Lutz, Nyco, and Ørnefjell also took part. Some of these ships, including Havmøy, returned the following month with Convoy GS 27, departing Kungnait Bay on Aug. 24-1943, arriving St. John's on the 29th. Again, follow the instructions at the link for more information on her war voyages. As will be seen, she made another voyage to Greenland and back in Oct./Nov.-1943.

According to the same site, she travelled to Kingston in Jan.-1944, starting this voyage in New York on Jan. 12 with Convoy NG 410, which arrived Guantanamo on Jan. 18, then continued that same day with Convoy GAT 112, which arrirved Trinidad on the 24th. As already mentioned, Havmøy's destination was Kingston, where she arrived Jan. 24. Follow the links provided to these convoys for more details; it looks like Havmøy was the only Norwegian ship in NG 410, while Sevilla is also listed in GAT 112. Havmøy returned to New York the following month in Convoy GN 112, departing Guantanamo on Febr. 3-1944, arriving New York on the 10th.

As mentioned, the majority of her other voyages kept her around the U.S., St. John's, Halifax, Sydney, C.B. etc., except for a voyage to Trinidad in Sept.-1944, starting out in New York on Aug. 29 with Convoy NG 456, which arrived Guantanamo on Sept. 4, continuing that same day in Convoy GAT 158, which arrived Trinidad on Sept. 9. The Norwegian Alar, Britamsea, Norvarg, Notos, Nyco, Ørnefjell and Vav are also said to have sailed in NG 456, while Notos (bound for Aruba) and Vav are the only other Norwegian ships listed in GAT 158.

In the spring of 1945 she made some independent voyages to Vera Cruz and Havana (March/Apr.-1945). On VE Day, Havmøy was in St. John's, having arrived there on May 8-1945 from Sydney, C.B.

Misc Convoys - By clicking on "Ship Search", using "Havmoy" as keyword, several convoys that are not mentioned in the above narrative will come up. Here are SG 7, GS 11, SG 15, GS 20, SG 28, GS 27, NG 410, GAT 112, GN 112, NG 456, and GAT 158, all mentioned in my text above. (HX 198 is also available, but as will be seen, Havmøy is not listed in this convoy at this site - as already indicated in my text above, she may not have sailed).

1 who died - Stavern's Memorial for Seamen claims she sank Apr.14-1941 on a voyage from Philadelpia to Brasil, but this can't be correct. Able Seaman Sverre Johan Sandvik is commemorated - said to have died in this incident.

Other ships by this name: P. Meyer had lost a ship named Havmøy in a heavy storm on Apr. 9 (19?)-1935, 20-30 miles off the south coast of Jamaica, when on a voyage Black River, Jamaica for Havre with a cargo of logwood. 11 men were lost with the ship. The name Havmøy was again used for a ship delivered in 1968, 42 501 gt. Renamed Brali for Torvald Klaveness, Oslo in 1975, Asean Liberty for L. G. Johannessen, Oslo in 1978.
