* Note that according to the records of someone who was on board Sandar at the time, she joined Convoy OS 3 for this voyage to Curacao. See my page about Sandar, as well as this external link about the OS convoys, where she's indeed listed in Convoy OS 3 (leaving Liverpool on Aug. 13-1941).

* See ON 4.
**
Chulmleigh lay at Reykjavik until Sept. 28-1941, then joined Convoy ON 19A from there.

Notes:
A. Hague says in this document that the Rescue Vessel Hontestroom was on her last passage as such. However, in his "Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945" he only mentions 6 voyages, her final one in May-1941. When she was on her way back to Clyde, having been detached from Convoy OB 322 on May 19, she encountered survivors from torpedoed ships from Convoy HX 126; see also John P. Pedersen. A. Hague adds in this book that due to deficiencies in her accommodation and facilities, she was thereafter withdrawn from rescue service and employed in the freight trade. (Perhaps she was in Convoy ON 6 in the capacity of freighter, rather than Rescue Vessel?). Her deficiencies are also evident in various complaints from survivors she had picked up - ref. the last paragraph on this page, as well as the report on this page.

Marken, on a voyage from Cardiff and Trinidad for Table Bay with aircraft, did not make it to her destination. She was torpedoed and sunk on Sept. 10-1941 by U-111 - crew of 37, all saved. ("Lloyd's War Losses", Vol I and "Axis Submarine Successes of World War II', Jürgen Rohwer). See also the external link provided below.

Escorts (also received from Don Kindell, whose own work, covering "Royal & other Navies Day-by-Day in World War 2" can be viewed at this website):
Aug. 11-Aug. 17:
Arabis.
Aug. 12-Aug. 17: Northern Spray.

Aug. 13-Aug. 17: Violet.
Aug. 17-Aug. 24: Ausonia, Chesterfield, Hepatica, Trillium, Windflower.
Aug. 24: Ripley.

All the Norwegian ships in this convoy are included on this website. More information on them can be found via the alphabet index below, or via the Master Ship Index.
