Voyage Record
From Dec.-1941 to Oct.-1945:

(Received from Don Kindell - His source: The late Arnold Hague's database).

Follow the convoy links provided for more information on each. Or go to this external page, click on "Ship Search", then type "Brush" in the search field. This will bring up direct links to each convoy. Please be aware that some of them may be incomplete - compare A. Hague's numbers to TDS numbers (TDS = number of ships according to Trade Division Signal).

Errors may exist, and several voyages are missing.

Compare Arnold Hague's information with these original images from the Norwegian National Archives:
(includes voyages missing from A. Hague's records - from March-1940 to Apr.-1946. Note that some of the info is a little different)

* This makes no sense either (and she's not included in Convoy ONS 5). Or perhaps she had joined ONS 5 from ON 181 at some point in the passage, then XB 52 to Boston, instead of travelling to New York with the ON convoy? (However, see Page 4)

 Notes:

The westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 140*, in which Brush is listed in Nov.-1942, had originated in Liverpool on Oct. 17 and arrived New York on Nov. 7, but Brush was not present from the U.K.; she joined this convoy from Halifax. The Norwegian Corneville, Haakon Hauan, Hallanger, Harpefjell, Norjerv, Solsten and Stirlingville are also listed. Later that month Brush appears in Convoy SC 111. This was a New York-U.K. convoy, departing New York on Nov. 25-1942, arriving Liverpool on Dec. 17, but Brush only went as far as Halifax, where she arrived on Nov. 29. This convoy is not available among the SC convoys listed in my own Convoys section, but I've linked directly to it within the table above, and as can be seen, the Norwegian Gudvor, Harpefjell, Heimgar, Norjerv, Novasli, Sevilla, and Sir James Clark Ross are also included, though some of them returned to port (it looks like this convoy encountered bad weather).

The next Trans-Atlantic convoy she appears in is Convoy ON 163*, which originated in Liverpool on Jan. 24-1943 and arrived New York on Febr. 16, but again, note that Brush was only present from St. John's to Halifax, later joining Convoy ON 164 from there to New York (according to A. Hauge), where she's said to have arrived on Febr. 17 (the convoy having originated in Liverpool on Febr. 1). It will be noticed when following the link to my page about this convoy, based on original convoy documents, that she's not listed there, but as she joined from Halifax, it's possible that this information is missing from my documents. Follow the link for the names of other ships in ON 164. ON 163 also included the Norwegian Askepot, Fjordheim, and Sevilla.

The following month she's listed in Convoy SC 124, also an eastbound Trans-Atlantic convoy (from New York March 20-1943, to Liverpool Apr. 9 - Veni is also listed), but Brush again stopped at Halifax, arriving there on March 23, later joining Convoy SC 125 from Halifax to Loch Ewe, with arrival Apr. 14-1943. In May we find her in the westbound Convoy ON 181, joining from Iceland on May 4, station 45 (as can be seen from her Voyage Record, she had previously arrived Iceland on Apr. 20 with Convoy UR 71). ON 181 had originated in Liverpool on Apr. 30-1943. The Commodore's narrative and HMS Keppel's report are also available for this convoy.

Please go back to the Voyage Record for information on some of her subsequent voyages.

At the end of that year she shows up, together with Atlantic, Chr. Th. Boe, Evanger, Grey County, Solstad, and South America, in Convoy ONS 24*. This was also a Transatlantic convoy (originated in Liverpool on Nov. 30-1943, arrived Halifax Dec. 18), but Brush joined from St. John's, N.F., so was not present from the U.K.

In the spring of 1945 she appears in Convoy SC 170, together with Askepot, Biscaya, Brønnøy, Chr. Th. Boe, Frontenac, Geisha, Romulus, Tercero and Titanian. This convoy left Halifax on March 17-1945 and arrived Liverpool on the 31st, but Brush stopped at Belfast Lough, later joining a UR convoy from there to Reykjavik - again, see the external links provided within the table above for more on these convoys. Brush is also listed in an ONS convoy that year, namely Convoy ONS 49*, and this time she was present from the U.K. This means that she was at sea on VE Day, because this convoy originated in Liverpool on May 2-1945 and arrived Halifax on May 18. Brush, however, was bound for New York, where she arrived (via Cape Cod Canal) on May 20. Askepot, Evanger, Germa, Grey County, Henrik Ibsen, Iron Baron, Maud, Orwell, and Velox are also included in ONS 49.

* The ON and ONS convoys mentioned here will be added to individual pages in my Convoys section; in the meantime, the ships sailing in them, and their escorts, are named in the section listing ships in all ON convoys and the page for ships in all ONS convoys.

For more information on all the other Norwegian ships named on this page, please see the alphabet index below, or go to the Master Ship Index.
