 Misc. Voyages:
For information on voyages made in between those mentioned here, please see the documents received from the National Archives of Norway and A. Hague's record above. Follow the convoy links provided for more details on them. Some include various reports and several Norwegian ships took part.

From Page 1 of the archive documents, we learn that Brush was in Philadelphia when war broke out in Norway on Apr. 9-1940. It'll also be noticed that she spent quite a long time in Mobile that summer. Her 1941 voyages start on Page 2 and continue on Page 3 (showing a long stay in New York that fall). The latter document also has most of her 1942 voyages and as can be seen, she had another long stay in New York that spring, before heading to Greenland (via Argentia). According to the Stavern Memorial (link at the end of this page), Brush lost a crew member that summer. Stoker Nils Schølberg Strømme from Narvik is said to have died at sea on June 29-1942, following an illness. Page 3 also shows a long stay in New York in the summer of 1942. She later made another voyage to Greenland (convoy info in Voyage Record above).

The westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 140*, in which Brush is listed in Nov.-1942, had originated in Liverpool on Oct. 17 and arrived New York on Nov. 7, but Brush was not present from the U.K.; she joined this convoy from Halifax. The Norwegian Corneville, Haakon Hauan (returned), Hallanger, Harpefjell (also from Halifax), Norjerv, Solsten and Stirlingville are also listed. Later that month Brush appears in Convoy SC 111*. This was a New York-U.K. convoy, departing New York on Nov. 25, arriving Liverpool on Dec. 17, but Brush only went as far as Halifax, where she arrived on Nov. 29 (Page 3). Gudvor (also for Halifax), Harpefjell (lost touch, went to Halifax), Heimgar (returned), Norjerv (also returned), Novasli, Sevilla (for Sydney, C.B.) and Sir James Clark Ross (returned) are also named (it looks like this convoy encountered bad weather, and many ships returned to port). At the end of that year, she made another voyage to Greenland - see Voyage Record and Page 4.

In Febr.-1943, A. Hague has included her in Convoy ON 163*, which originated in Liverpool on Jan. 24 and arrived New York on Febr. 16, but again, note that Brush was only present from St. John's to Halifax, arriving Febr. 13, later joining Convoy ON 164 from there to New York (according to A. Hauge), where she's said to have arrived on Febr. 17 (this convoy had sailed from Liverpool on Febr. 1, arrival New York is given as Febr. 19). It will be noticed, when following the link to my page about this convoy, based on original convoy documents, that she's not listed there, but if she joined from Halifax, it's possible that this information is missing from my documents. It'll also be noticed, when going back to the archive document referred to above, that Halifax is not mentioned for this period, so either her listing in these convoys is incorrect, or these movements are simply missing from the document. A. Hague has also included the Norwegian Askepot, Fjordheim and Sevilla in ON 163.

The following month Brush can be found in Convoy SC 124*, also an eastbound Trans-Atlantic convoy (from New York March 20-1943, to Liverpool Apr. 9 - Veni is also listed), but Brush again stopped at Halifax, arriving there on March 25, according to Page 4 (A. Hague gives her arrival as March 23), subsequently joining Convoy SC 125 from Halifax to Loch Ewe on March 31, with arrival Apr. 14. Eglantine, Potentilla and Rose were among the escorts for a while (see SC convoy escorts). From Loch Ewe, Brush proceeded to Reykjavik the next day, and in May we find her in the westbound Convoy ON 181, joining from Iceland at 11:45Z on May 4 in 59 04N 23 14W, taking station 45. ON 181 had originated in Liverpool on Apr. 30. The Commodore's narrative and HMS Keppel's report are also available for this convoy.

Page 4 lists the rest of her 1943 voyages, while convoy information for some of them can be found in the Voyage Record. At the end of that year she shows up, together with Atlantic, Chr. Th. Boe, Evanger, Grey County, Solstad and South America, in Convoy ONS 24*. This was also a westbound Trans-Atlantic convoy (originated in Liverpool on Nov. 30-1943, arrived Halifax Dec. 18), but Brush joined from St. John's, N.F., so was not present from the U.K. She arrived New York on Dec. 20, proceeding to Philadelphia the next day. Her 1944 voyages also start on Page 4 and continue on Page 5 and Page 6, with convoy info in the table above.

In the spring of 1945 she appears in Convoy SC 170*, together with Askepot, Biscaya, Brønnøy, Chr. Th. Boe, Frontenac, Geisha (Commodore Vessel), Romulus, Tercero and Titanian. This convoy left Halifax on March 17 and arrived Liverpool on the 31st; Brush, carrying a general cargo and telegraph poles, stopped at Belfast Lough that day, later joining a UR convoy from there to Reykjavik (see link in Voyage Record). She's also listed in another westbound North Atlantic convoy that year, namely Convoy ONS 49*; she departed Belfast Lough on May 3 and arrived New York on May 20 (the convoy originated in Liverpool on May 2 and arrived Halifax on May 18). In other words, VE Day was celebrated at sea. Askepot, Evanger, Germa, Grey County, Henrik Ibsen, Iron Baron, Maud, Orwell and Velox are also included in ONS 49. Brush headed back to Reykjavik in June (Page 6), but this time, no convoy was necessary. Page 7 shows her voyages to Apr.-1946.

* The ON and ONS convoys mentioned here will be added to individual pages in my Convoys section; in the meantime, the ships sailing in them (and escorts) are named in the section listing ships in all ON convoys and on the page for ships in all ONS convoys. Also, the entire SC series will be updated and completed (including the already existing convoys - some have already been updated), see ships in all SC convoys (with escorts).

More information on all the other Norwegian ships named on this page can be found via the alphabet index below, or go to the Master Ship Index.

 POST WAR:

Renamed Askholm in 1955 (still Norwegian), Pakistan Protector in 1959 (Pakistan), Shujaat in 1962 (Pakistan). In Lloyd's Register in 1964 but not in 1966.
