Due to bad weather the convoy was scattered on March 4, was able to reform (Ijora and Larranga missing at that time - the latter later arrived Iceland safely), but was scattered again on the 6th, and again able to reform. Ijora (about 100 miles astern of convoy, cargo of timber) was sunk on March 7 by the German destroyer Friedrich Ihn (Tirpitz was out with 3 destroyers searching for Convoy PQ 12; in fact Convoy QP 8 had met this convoy at noon on the 7th, the ships in the 2 convoys passing through each other's columns). QP 8 split up on March 9, with 5 of the ships arriving Hvalfjord on the 11th, escorted by Oxlip and Sweetbriar, and the rest heading for Akureyri. (See also text under Noreg).
