CONVOY MKS 27

The document from which I've transcribed the information in the first table gives departure date (from?) as Oct. 13-1943, arrival Clyde on the 24th (strangely, Page 2, starting with Pundit, gives arrival Clyde on Oct. 26).

Arnold Hague gives departure Gibraltar on Oct. 14-1943, arrival Liverpool on the 28th (23 ships), and adds that MKS 27 had started out in Alexandria on Oct. 4-1943, arriving Gibraltar on Oct. 14 (see the second table on this page).

Transcribed from documents (Advance Sailing Telegram) received from Tony Cooper - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.

What follows is the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy. As can be seen in the second table on this page, some of these ships had previously arrived with the Alexandria convoy.

Comparing the above with a list of ships in Convoy MKS 27 received from Don Kindell, based on A. Hague's own research, I find that A. Hague has not included San Rafael in this convoy. He has, however, included her in the Alexandria convoy w/destination U.K. (ref. next table).

Escorts (received from Don Kindell, whose own work, covering "Royal & other Navies Day-by-Day in World War 2" can be viewed at this website):
Oct. 14-Oct. 24:
Mourne.
Oct. 14-Oct. 25: Heather.
Oct. 14-Oct. 27: Campanula.
Oct. 14-Oct. 28: Clematis, Hesperus, Sweetbriar.
Oct. 16-Oct. 27: Vesper.
Oct. 28: Burnet, Growler.

Alexandria, Oct. 4-1943

As mentioned, A. Hague says in his "The Allied Convoy System" that MKS 27 left Alexandria on Oct. 4-1943, and arrived Gibraltar on Oct. 14

Transcribed from the list of ships in MKS 27 received from Don Kindell - Source: A. Hague's own research.

As can be seen in the first table on this page, some of these ships subsequently proceeded to the U.K. with the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy.
