CONVOY MKS 29

The documents from which I've transcribed this information gives departure Gibraltar on Nov. 2-1943, arrival Clyde Nov. 13.

Arnold Hague gives departure Gibraltar on Nov. 3, arrival Liverpool on the 18th, and indicates that MKS 29 had started out in Alexandria on Oct. 24-1943, arriving Gibraltar on Nov. 3 (see second table on this page).

Transcribed from documents (Advance Sailing Telegram) received from Tony Cooper - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.
Station numbers were obtained from a list of ships in Convoy MKS 29 received from Don Kindell, based on A. Hague's own research.

(See also the OS / KMS convoys from the same time period at this external website. For instance, many of the ships in MKS 29 are listed in Convoy OS 63 / KMS 37 the following month, but see also earlier convoys).

This first table shows the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy. As can be seen in the second table on this page, some of these ships had previously arrived with the Alexandria convoy.

Ville de Majunga is not included in A. Hague's list, though he does have her in the Alexandria portion with destination U.K.

In addition to the above ships (except Ville de Majunga), A. Hague has included the following ships in this convoy:

French Cap-Pinede - Gibraltar to Casablanca
British Harpalyce - Gibraltar to Casablanca
British Ottinge - Gibraltar to Casablanca
French Paramé - Gibraltar to Casablanca
British Spindletop - Gibraltar to Casablanca

Escorts (received from Don Kindell, whose own work, covering "Royal & other Navies Day-by-Day in World War 2" can be viewed at this website):
Nov. 3-Nov. 13:
Pennywort.
Nov. 3-Nov. 15: Asphodel, Clover.
Nov. 3-Nov. 16: Highlander.
Nov. 3-Nov. 17: Abelia, Walker.

Alexandria, Oct. 25-1943

As mentioned, A. Hague says in his "The Allied Convoy System" that MKS 29 left Alexandria on Oct. 24-1943, arriving Gibraltar on Nov. 3.

Transcribed from the list of ships in MKS 29 received from Don Kindell - Source: A. Hague's own research.

As can be seen in the first table on this page, some of these ships subsequently proceeded to the U.K. with the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy.
