The ships with the A numbers probably joined with the Sydney C.B. section.
Additionally, according to notes for Convoy SC 5, the following ships in that convoy had come from HX 74: Everleigh, Alaska, Nea, Embassage, Trecarrell and possibly Kingsland. Due to a hurricane warning at Bermuda on Sept. 15, all ships at Bermuda sailed to Halifax. The following are crossed out in Advance Sailing Telegram for the Bermuda portion (received from Tony Cooper, England): |
Notes: Commodore, Vice Admiral F. M. Austin was in Manchester Spinner, Vice Commodore was J. W. Osborne, Master of Manchester Citizen. * Empire Razorbill also shows up in the next convoy - she could not have been in both. * Gunvor Mærsk (which had also been cancelled from Convoy SC 5) is listed in Convoy SC 6. The convoy had 32 ships, 31 remaining at rendezvous - Inger Toft (from Sydney section) having disappeared during the night of Sept. 26/27 - reason unknown. Commodore says in his notes: "She was always astern and had no daylight signalling lamp - Friday 20th". Ocean Escort: HMS Montclare, HMCS Assiniboine and HMCS Elm until sunset Sept. 28. More details on all the Norwegian ships named in this table can be found in the alphabetical ship lists of this website. To the next HX convoy in my list HX 75 |
