Nationalities have been added with the help of "The World's Merchant Fleets 1939", R. W. Jordan. There are 2 A 1 forms for this convoy, the first one is extremely messy, with ships crossed out and arrows going all over the place. Even though some ships are crossed out, it looks like this does not necessarily mean they did not sail; some of them appear to have been crossed out simply because they became stragglers - please compare the information in this first form with Arnold Hague's listing for HX 37 on the page naming ships in all HX convoys. | As will be seen when going back to Arnold Hague's listing for HX 37 on the page naming ships in all HX convoys, he has included all the ships that are crossed out above, except Laristan, Star of Luxor and Texas Banker. He says Lagarto and Point Ancha became stragglers on Apr. 26, while Sommerstad had straggled on Apr. 23. Pelagos put back to Halifax Apr. 27.
Texas Banker is listed in the next convoy, HX 38, while Laristan shows up again in HX 48 (see also the Advance Sailing Telegrams on my pages for HX 39 and HX 41). |
