CONVOY HN 10B Norway-U.K.
Sailed from Norway on Febr. 11-1940, arrived Methil on the 13th.
Received from Tony Cooper, England - His source: Public Records Office, Kew. What follows is an extract of what can be found in the Advance Sailing telegram for HN 10. Note also that some ships are listed as scheduled but cancelled on that page, but I'm not sure which of the 3 convoys HN 10, HN 10B or HN 11 they were designated for. Another document listing all the Norway-U.K. Convoys states that Convoy HN 10B had 20 Norwegian, 7 Swedish, and 2 Finnish ships, for a total of 29, 12 of which were bound for the west coast. (This document does not mention a Panamanian ship). |

* This ship is listed as Panamanian Mary of 1524 gt by Arnold Hague in a document received from D. Kindell; note that there was a Swedish Mary of the same tonnage according to Eric Gröner. (For info, Norway had a tanker named Solstad, and also had a ship named Agnes). |
Notes: Weather on the passage was calm with light northerly winds and low westerly swell. In general, the ships kept good station and were good at answering signals. Torafire dropped back badly and eventually went into Aberdeen. The 12 westbound ships were escorted by Mohawk and Tartar after having detached from the convoy on Febr. 12. Escorts mentioned: Also, the text under Febr. 10 and Febr. 11 on this external page mentions this convoy and its escorts (scroll down in the text). To the next HN convoy in my list HN 11 |
