CONVOY HG 45
Departed Gibraltar on Oct. 9-1940 and arrived Liverpool on the 27th.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 42 ships in this convoy.

Transcribed from documents received from Tony Cooper, England - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.

I inadvertently started listing the ships from Page 4 of the sailing telegram, which shouldn't really matter. But just for info, Page 1 starts with Herport through Alcora, Page 2=Alpera through Mansuria, Page 3=Falkvik through Domino, and Page 4=Lisbon through Mostyn.

Crossed out ships did not sail.

Notes:
Commodore's notes are not available and, therefore, escorts are not known.

* These ships have the word "Not" next to them, but they are not crossed out, nor do they show up again in the next convoy, so it looks like they did sail in HG 45(?).

** The Advance Sailing Telegram gives the nationality as Polish for Haifa Trader, with 3076 gt. This was a Palestinian ship, which became British at some point in 1940. Later became Irish Larch in July 1941. (This according to R.W. Jordan's "The World's Merchant Fleets").

* Santa Lucia was lost before she reached her destination. According to "Loyd's War Losses", Vol. I, this happened 44° 3.6 miles from Pile Light, Belfast, off No. 5 Briggs Buoy, Belfast Lough on Nov. 1-1940. 7 crew were saved, 4 lost. Voyage is given as Oporto for Port Talbot, 480 tons sleepers. Cause for her loss is not given.
Baltrader is said to have been lost a few days later (Nov. 9), voyage Seville for London with 700 tons general and wine, 2 crew died.
