A story by Peder Kristoffer Langeland, who served on this ship from Oct.-1942 till July-1943 (text in Norwegian only). He states that she was on charter to the U.S. Navy, and travelled mainly between Trinidad and Portland, Maine/the Gulf with gasoline while he was on board. He adds that the captain was the brother of Einar Rasmussen and often had his wife on board with him, as she lived in New York.

Her voyages are listed on these original images from the Norwegian National Archives:

 Notes:

As will be seen when going to Page 1 of the archive documents, Polycastle was en route from Trieste to New York when war broke out in Norway on Apr. 9-1940. She had left Trieste on March 31, arrived Kingston, Jamaica on Apr. 21, New York on Apr. 29. Her 1941 voyages also start on this document and continue on Page 2, which also shows a couple of 1942 voyages. Others are listed on Page 3 and it'll be noticed that she appears to have spent quite a long time in Boston that year. She had arrived there from Portland, Me on Jan. 29-1942 and departure is given as March 10, when she proceeded to Covenas, via New York. Page 4 has the rest of her 1942 voyages as well as some 1943 voyages.

Page 5 shows another long stay in Boston, where she had arrived from Portland, Me on Sept. 8-1943. She did not leave again until Dec. 17, when she proceeded to New York. This page also states that she later arrived Kingston, Jamaica in tow on Febr. 7-1944, when on a voyage from New York to Puerto la Cruz - reason not known, but it looks like she may have required some sort of repairs, because as can be seen, she subsequently spent a long time in Galveston. She had arrived there (from Kingston) on Febr. 23 and departure is given as June 8, when she sailed to Corpus Christi, where he arrived the next day.

Her 1945 voyages start on Page 6, while the rest are listed on Page 7, which shows another long gap in her voyages. She had arrived New York from Portland, Me on July 2-1945 and did not leave until Sept. 11. This document also has some 1946 voyages; see also Page 8.

 POST WAR:

Broken up in 1962-63.

Stavern Memorial commemoration - Oiler Arvid Georg Schei is commemorated at this Memorial for Seamen in Stavern, Norway. He's listed as having died after an accident on board on Dec. 20-1941. From Page 2 of the archive documents, we learn that Polycastle was on her way from Covenas to Portland, Maine on that date.
