D/S Gaston Micard To Gaston Micard on the "Ships starting with G" page. Manager: Sig. S. Årstad, Bergen Built in Larvik, Norway in 1917. Previously Røvær, Dorothea, Sjøsprøit and Spero (1933). Captain: Petter Andreas Berg.
Gaston Micard, bound for Middlesbrough, is listed in the Norway-U.K. Convoy HN 6 in Dec.-1939/Jan.-1940. As will be seen by following the link, several Norwegian ships took part. In Febr.-1940 she shows up in Convoy OA 92, bound for Nantes. This convoy left Southend on Febr. 15 and dispersed on the 18th. That summer she's listed, together with the Norwegian Borgholm, Glarona, Inger, Loke (returned), Lotos, and Reiaas, in Convoy OB 188, departing Liverpool on July 23-1940, dispersed on the 27th. Her destination is given as Campbelltown, N.B. on that occasion - ref. external link below. She was scheduled for the slow Sydney (C.B.)-U.K. Convoy SC 9 towards the end of Oct.-1940, but instead joined the next convoy a few days later, SC 10, cargo of lumber for Lowestoft. Svein Jarl and Spes were also in company. She was otherwise mostly in service around the coast of U.K./British Channel. The external website that I've linked to below has information on the convoys she sailed in. Gaston Micard was one of the many Norwegian ships carrying supplies for the Normandy invasion, arriving with cargo on June 12-1944 and leaving again on the 16th. Again, follow the instructions provided at the external link below for information on the convoys she was in during this time period. For more information on all the other Norwegian ships mentioned on this page, please see the alphabet index below, or go to the Master Ship Index.
