* Bernard N Baker and W R Grace have been given the same station number. In fact, Bernard N Baker is not mentioned at all in the Advance Sailing Telegram, and I don't think she was in this convoy, because she's listed in Convoy JW 63, which had arrived the Kola Inlet on Jan. 8-1945 (it would have been a very quick turn-around). Besides, she shows up in the AST for the next convoy, RA 64. |
Commodore was in British Respect, Vice Commodore in Empire Stalwart. Lacklan, Longwood and Blue Ranger were escort oilers. The convoy was not detected by the enemy, but a severe gale was encountered northeast of the Faroes, forcing the ships to take shelter, then reassembled and continued when the weather had abated. Fort Highfield sheltered in the Faroes with collision damge, and did not arrive Loch Ewe with the other ships on Jan. 21 - she later proceeded to Kirkwall. From Loch Ewe the destroyers Keppel, Walker and Westcott took the Clyde bound ships to their destination, with arrival Jan. 23.
