Domby became a straggler. Also in this convoy (station numbers not known): |
Notes: The Rescue Vessel Zamalek was on her 11th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde on Sept. 19-1941. She detached from Convoy ON 18 on Sept. 24, arrived Iceland on Sept. 25, then returned to Clyde with Convoy SC 45 - Sept. 30-Oct. 2. On this return voyage she carried 43 passenger survivors from Iceland to Clyde. ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague). According to "Lloyd's War Losses", Vol 1, Hazelside was on a voyage from Cardiff and Freetown for Durban and Alexandria with 3476 tons of general cargo and military stores when she was sunk on Oct. 28-1941 (torpedoed by U-68). She had a crew of 39 and 6 gunners - 2 killed. Escorts (also received from Don Kindell, whose own work, covering "Royal & other Navies Day-by-Day in World War 2" can be viewed at this website): Related external links: Empire Ships - Provides more information on the Empire Ships sailing in this convoy.
