(Received from Don Kindell - His source: The late Arnold Hague's database).

Follow the convoy links provided for more information on each (some listings are incomplete).

The question marks have been added by me. Please be aware that errors may exist - this could also mean that she may not have sailed in all the convoys listed here. Also, several voyages are missing.

 WW II:

Lind was one of the well known "Kvarstad ships" that attempted to break out from Sweden on March 31/April 1-1942 following a long court case there. Only 2 out of a total of 10 ships involved managed to reach their destination, Lind being one of them, B. P. Newton the other (Operation Performance, Sir George Binney). Please continue now to my page "Kvarstad Ships & Men" below for background facts and details on the breakout and all ships involved, with a crew list for Lind at the time.

For details on the breakout from Sweden, see Kvarstad Ships & Men

She was subsequently mostly in service around the U.K. Please see the documents received from the Norwegian archives for more details on her various war voyages, and compare these with the convoy information provided by Arnold Hague in the Voyage Record.

As will be seen when going to Page 10 of the archive documents, she got to go home to Norway in Oct.-1945.

 POST WAR:

Sold in the summer of 1947 and renamed St. Guenole for Cie. Des Transportes Maritime de Goudron, Paris. Ran aground on Nov. 1-1948, voyage Nantes-Irvine (see also this external page and scroll down to Lind).

Other ships by this name: Rederiet Odfjell A/S had a steamship named Lind in 1916, see "Other ships by this name" in my text for Falkanger. Also, the company had a tanker named Lind delivered to them in 1949, 1219 gt. Sold to France that same year and renamed Zit. Sailed as Italian Zitmar from 1957, Stella di Lipari from 1982. Yet another Lind, also a tanker, was delivered to the company in 1950, 1250 gt. Sold to Brasil in 1959 and renamed Amazonia. Another Lind, 1855 gt, was delivered in 1960. Later names: Porto de Aviero 1968 (Lisbon), Porto Leone 1978 (Piræus), Somcol 1 1981 (still Greek). Sank off Jeddah in Sept.-1985.

The text on this page was compiled with the help of: "Nortraships flåte", J. R. Hegland, E-mails from Roger W. Jordan - and misc.
