Arktos was catching for seals on the Newfoundland Banks when war broke out in Norway on Apr. 9-1940 (she had left Norway for the sealing grounds on Febr. 19). Decided to go to St. John's (N.F.) and ended up under the control of Nortraship's Fishery office. Stranded near Cape Pine (N.F.) on Sept. 13-1940, when on a voyage North Sydney C. B.- Bay de Verde N.F. (according to the archive document, she was on a voyage from St. John's for Sydney, C.B., having departed St. John's on Sept. 6. It looks like she'd been there for several weeks). Some of this info is from a posting on my Ship Forum by Arild Engelsen - his source: "Ishavsskuter III" by Johan Ottesen.
