CONVOY WS 21P
(Troop Convoy)

Sailed from U.K. on July 15-1942 to form off Oversay, estimated time of arrival 6 miles from Oversay at 03:00Z on July 18.
Estimated time of arrival Freetown July 25 - sailed from Freetown at 10:00Z on Aug. 1 - rendezvoused with Convoy AS 4 at 09:00Z on Aug. 5
Estimated time of arrival Capetown a.m. on Aug. 14.

Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoys System" says with regard to this convoy that it formed (off Oversay) on July 17-1942 and eventually had a total of 13 ships, 8 of which had sailed from the U.S. as Convoy AS 4 and joined at sea on Aug. 5-1942. Only 10 ships sailed from South Africa on Aug. 16, bound for Suez, dispersing off Aden on Aug. 29-1942.

Only the ships sailing from England are known, and listed below.

Notes:
WS 21P was to rendezvous with Convoy AS 4 in 08 45S 11 20W, where British escort vessels were to relieve the U.S. escorts.

Convoy speed: 15 knots to Freetown, 11 knots from rendezvous with Convoy AS 4 to Capteown.

Arnold Hague says that 3 ships from Convoy WS 21P formed a separate convoy, WS 21PG, off Durban on Aug. 19 for the Persion Gulf, dispersing off Hormuz on Sept. 1-1942.
