Arnold Hague has not included Novasli and Oakbank in this convoy. See his listing for HX 31 on the page naming ships in all HX convoys. Here's Novasli's voyage record for this period, and as can be seen, she did leave Halifax on the day this convoy sailed. |
Notes: Commodore was in Consuelo, Vice Commodore in British Endurance. The ships denoted * have been crossed out on the convoy form - it looks like Oakbank was simply moved to another station, station 95, while Esmond, Rugeley, Beaconhill, and British Honour sailed in the next convoy, HX 32. ** Destination for Sirikishna is given as Falmouth, then Glasgow is added by hand. Similarly, the destination for Maja is given as Milford Haven, but Manchester is added by hand. * There was a Panamanian flagged (Greek managers) and a British ship by this name. According to A. Hague, this was the British Culebra. A. Hague says that Makis became a straggler on March 30. Judging from the Advance Sailing Telegram for HX 32, Thistlegarth, Leontios Teryazos, Queen Maud, Wellington Court, King William, Athellaird and Star of Alexandria had also been scheduled for HX 31, but sailed in HX 32 instead. Ronin in station 74 (which had Greek managers), later became the Panamanian flagged Iran, listed on this website. Ocean Escort: HMS Alaunia. A. Hague names the following escorts (extracted from this list of HX convoy escorts received from D. Kindell; dates are European style, day/month/year): To the next HX convoy in my list HX 32 |
