Some words in this handwritten log are hard to decipher - hence my question marks in places. (The text in Italics in parenthesis is my own comments).

August 2-1942
16:15 - Convoy proceeded out of harbour. Owing to fog last ship did not pass gate till 10:50.
23:35 - Convoy formed up. Speed 9 knots.

August 3
14:45 - Baltrover unable to maintain speed was ordered to return to Halifax without escort.
Ex'd. Emergency turns.
Run to noon 175 miles - av. speed 8.5 knots.

August 4
Ex'd. Anti Aircraft armament.
Run 224 miles. Average speed 9.33 knots.

August 5
Fog descended at 07:00 and did not clear till 17:00. A route diversion having been received course was altered to 020° at 12:00. Pos. 47 38N 51 10W.
12:50 - An explosion was heard bearing 090° 3-4 miles.
14:00 - Muffled explosion 180°-220°.
Fort Amherst detached for St. John's at 09:00 (W/p?).
When fog cleared, No's 13 John Davenport, American, 23 Tawali Amer. (this ship was Dutch), 32 Contessa Am., 43 Hindanger (listed in station 42 on A 1 form), 82 Metapan (Amer) were not with convoy.
19:00 - Western escort took over.
Run 229 miles Av. sp. 9.54.

August 6
Fog till 14:30. Informed by S.O.E. that Hindanger had been found and escorted to St. John's.
21:00 - Contessa rejoined.
23:30 Pos. 51 31N 45 20W. Evasive alteration of course 40° to starboard, by request of S.O.E.
Run 225 miles. Average speed 9.37 knots.

August 7
05:30 - Pos. 51 30N 44 40W. a/c to 062°.
16:00 - Metapan and Tawali rejoined.
18:15 - William Floyd had a man overboard. HMS Burnham who was in vicinity lowered a boat and picked him up.
21:00 - Important route diversion received a/c to 093° (098°?).
Run 218 miles (23 hours). Av. speed 9.37 knots.

August 8
First day entirely free from fog. Calm with high visibility.
11:00 - Exercised Convoy "attack by Enemy Raider". Expended(?) 2 smoke floats per ship.
Run 220 miles (23 hours). Av. speed 9.5 knots.

August 9
Wind freshened during night and by mid day was blowing from N.W. fore 8-9. Heavy sea. Charles H. Cramp (Amer.) lost a lifeboat. Towards evening wind moderated to 6-7.
Run 220 miles. 9.57 knots.

August 10
Escort changed over 11:00. Position 52 26N 25 50W. Wind and sea going down.
Run 209 miles 8.7 knots.

August 11
a/c at 17:55. Route diversion to 077°, 54 2N 18W.
Run 230 miles. Average speed 9.6 knots.

August 12
Air Escort sighted. Reorganized convoy.
Run 230 miles. Average speed 9.55 miles.

August 13
15:00 - Belfast portion detached.

August 14
07:00 - Arrived Holyhead.
