* Limousin in station 73 was the ex Nore.
*According to Arnold Hague, the ship in station 54 was the Norwegian South America, cargo of lub oil for Verdon. |
Notes: Commodore was in Bonheur, station 51, Vice Commodore in Grayburn, station 81. It looks like Alabama, Daronia and Lucellum had also been scheduled for this convoy, but had instead sailed in Convoy HXF 14 a couple of days earlier. El Oso, on a voyage from Lobitos and Halifax for Ellesmere Port with 9238 tons of crude oil and 511 tons of casing head gasolene, struck a mine on Jan. 11-1940 - mine laid by U-30 (Lemp) on Jan. 6. J. Rohwer gives position as "6 n. miles 280° Bar LV, Liverpool". A. Hague says that Blairmore collided with Leonard Pearce on Jan. 11-1940 - the latter sank. No further details. Also, he says Saranac was involved in a collision off Lundy Island. See Hague's listing for HX 14 on the page naming ships in all HX convoys. Ocean Escorts: A. Hague lists the following escorts (from this list of HX convoy escorts received from D. Kindell; dates are European style, day/month/year): Related external link: |
