CONVOY HS 35
Received from Tony Cooper, England
HS 35 - Departed Halifax on July 28-1942
Unfortunately, I do not know all the stations of the ships.
The Norwegian Norse King collided with the Dutch Ferdinand Bol (ex Empire Robin, ex Empire Oryx, ex West Harshaw). She also collided with the Dutch Ombilin. There's a description of what happened under Norse King on this website, taken from the official reports. Tony has told me that there are no known records of this convoy, the collision reports being the only records of the convoy existing. He has had a look at the ships leaving Halifax on July 28 and July 29-1942 and has found there were 35 ships leaving that port, 32 of which were going to Sydney (Cape Breton). This does not necessarily mean they were all actually in this convoy, but it's possible. Leaving Halifax on July 28-1942, and arriving Sydney July 30: The following ships sailed from Halifax on July 29-1942 and arrived July 31 (see Convoy HS 36 - external link): Note that several of the above ships subsequently joined Convoy SC 94, which departed Sydney on July 31-1942. 11 ships were sunk - follow the link for more details. See also the external links below to Uboat.net's account on the battle for SC 94. Related external link: |
