Jan-Olof:
Telnes was one of many vessels that are not included in Lloyd's War Losses because it was some time after the war had ended that it was established what had actually happened to these vessels.
There is a Lloyd's Casualty Report of April 1947 which merely states that "The Norwegian steamer Telnes was sunk on or about January 20 1940 by enemy action".
Even up to the end of 1946 there had been no official confirmation of what had happened to Telnes, and although the surviving crew of U55 would probably have known that they had sunk a vessel around the time reported, they would not necessarily have known its true identity. In Lloyd's other publications up to then it was described as "untraced" on voyage.
I have found nothing that says more than what is contained in Wynn's book to the effect that Telnes was sunk NW of the Orkneys.
Regards
Roger
