Hello Jan-Olof,

This refers certainly to the Italian submarine AXUM who had run aground on Kaifas Beach during a special operation on 27 December 1943. The crew made contact with the Greek Resistance but were left stranded until 22 January when a RAF aircraft dropped warm clothing and shoes enabling them to walk across the mountains for five days to Marathopolis where they were taken off by the torpedo-boat ARDIMENTOSO on 29 January and brought back to Taranto.

Best regards,

Platon
