Ciao Fabrizio and Brian,
Actually there were three engagements with U-boats near the Straits of Messina. At 2130/11 July MTB 640 attacked and claimed to have damaged a submarine in 37°34' N, 15°43' E and this was probably FLUTTO which had transited the Straits at 1705 but there is no definite proof she was sunk in this attack.
The other two attacks were on U 561 and NICHELIO as stated by Brian. The attack on NICHELIO was carried out by MGB 641 and other MGBs, no MTBs involved. MGB 641 was sunk but it is not clear if NICHELIO was the culprit as her loss was credited to coastal batteries. NICHELIO only claimed to have damaged a gunboat, she only used her twin machine-guns during the fight.
Best regards,
Platon
