Hello Jan-Olof,

The position of MANAQUI on 3.3.42 is some 2000 miles from the sinking claimed by MOROSINI. Since MOROSINI's attack was at 0138/12 March. This is about 200 hours depending on the actual time on 3.3.42 , this would make an average of about 10 knots. I understand MANAQUI was proceeding at 9 knots, 10 knots may appear a bit fast but not impossible. Mattesini finds it a bit difficult to believe that MOROSINI could have mistaken the smaller MANAQUI (2802 GRT) for a larger ship (she described her victim as 7000 GRT) but during the dark this was not uncommon and even in daylight there are plenty of instances of submarines exagerating the size of their victim.
Thanks for your info.

Best regards,

Platon
