Hello Platon,

Thanks for the information. I stumbled on a piece of information that pointed in the direction that U 504 sank the Stangarth. That piece of information can be found at the excellent site [www.uboatarchive.net]

The information is hidden in the english translation of KTB BDU and consist of a message sent from U 504 to BDU. It says, in the text for 16.3.1942:

"U 504 sank armed freighter of 7,000 BRT in DO 54. Ship exploded. On examination of wreckage discovered ship was carrying ammunition, trucks and aircraft parts destined for Bombay."

Stangarth was, as far as I can tell, the only vessel (going missing at the time) that was heading for India, Manaqui for sure wasn't.
