Hi,
Efforts to trace my father in law's ships during WW2 had revealed only one clue and that came from a story that on one voyage, following an enemy atttack, most of the crew had taken to the boats. On the same ship were two brothers, his friends from the same village - Borth near Aberystwyth, Wales. Sadly one was lost when the crew took to the boats - Willie Thomas. A quick search of CWGR revealed that William David Thomas, had been lost on the SS Clune Park. Unlike Willie, his brother John Thomas and my father in law, John Llewellyn Jenkins, survived (to be torpedoed on two further occasions).
Knowing little of WW2, (as my interest lies on the Western Front), with this morsel of information how can I further my research into my father in law's war record. His other ships? Would he have served on another ship of the same company when he got back to the UK?
Being a merchant seaman he considered his war service as his job and therefore did not claim his medals.
Perhaps you can advise me on the way forward.
Regards
