Hello again,
I see that the fate of this submarine has been reassessed at some point. It is no longer listed as sunk by the British submarine Unruly on July 13th, 1943. The attack made by Unruly was in fact made against the Benedetto Brin which escaped without damage. All this information is, once again, from Platon's brilliant material, more specifically:
https://uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/3556.html
and
https://uboat.net/italian_submarines/boats/114
I'm wondering when this reassessment was made, i.e. is this recent information?
Best regards,
Jan-Olof

Re: Loss of submarine Acciaio
Hello Jan-Olof,
I had found the information some years ago. This was supposed to be revealed in my book but I could not find a publisher. I do not know why this seems to have escaped the scrutiny of Italian and British historians.
There is still no absolute certainty of her fate but the air attack appears to be a strong possibility.
Incidentally, a "Ships hit" section was just added in uboat.net. More to follow.
Thank you for your continued interest in these pages.
Best regards,
Platon
