My step grandfather was a merchant marine all his life. He left his home in Sweden and never returned home. He sailed until he retired in 1980. I recently found a story where he sailed on the Baghdad that was shoot down bt a torpedo in May of 1942. It was a very interesting story because I had never heard the story before. My granfather's name was Bertil Ahren from Sweden. Everyone called him Swede. I was wondering if you have any other information about him. These stories are great! Swede and I had a very close relationship and these stories help to remind me what a wonderful person he was. He died six months after he retired from lung cancer which almost broke my heart. He and my grandmother Helen were married for thirteen years and he was the love of her life. She is now 82-years- old and in failing health but these stories would be wonderful for our family to hear.
