Hello Billy,

I am certain the ship in question is Polish PULASKI (b. 1912, 6345 t gross, ex CZAR, ex ESTONIA).

1913: As CZAR she picked up 102 people from burning VOLTURNO.
1917: British flag. In disposal of The Shipping Controller. Managers: Cunard Line.

09.1920: Transferred to Baltic American Line of A/S Det Ostasiatiske Kompagni.
01.1921: Renamed ESTONIA. Danish flag.
02.1930: sold by Danish owners to Poland and renamed PULASKI. Pre war she was employed first on Gdynia - New York route, then on Gdynia - South America line. Withdrawn from service in summer 1939, she was laid up awaiting sale.
24.08.1939: left Gdynia (manned by 18 men, incluing captain) and arived UK on 28 August.
Fall 1939: carried Polish soldiers from Balkans to France. November 1939 - March 1940: under refit in Marseilles. Chartered to CGN Cyprien Fabre.
March-May 1940: off West African coast, trooping and passenger service.
8.07.1941: detained (arrested) in Conakry by French authorities. During the night PULASKI escaped and on 9.07 arrived in Freetown. Upon leaving Conakry she was shelled by French bateries.
14.08.1940: chartered by MoS.
17.08.1940: left Freetown with convoy SL.44. Later trooping service.
May-June 1941: few trips on UK-Iceland route.
28.06.1941: left Gourock for Suez via Freetown and Capetown. Later trooping service together with Belgian ELIZABETHVILLE on Indian Ocean, mostly off East African coast. Reportedly in 1942 in Durban her bridge was gutted by fire (sabotage?)
January 1944: More trooping service, based in Bombay, until July.
July 1944: left Bombay for Durban via Mombassa and Diego Suarez.
September 1944 - January 1945: general refit in Durban.
February 1945 - March 1946: trooping service on Indian Ocean, mostly betweeen India and Akyab/Rangoon (October 1945: carried troops from Singapore to Soerabaya).
03.1946: Sold for Ł 100,000.-.
3.04.1946: Ownership transferred to the Ministry of War Transport. Ship allocated to Lamport & Holt Line Ltd., London as managers.
16.04.1946: Handed over to British authorities; renamed EMPIRE PENRYN. .
