Roger.
What one has to consider about Jack Albert Billmeir is his personal record in ship-owning.
From what is known about him, he would be known today as an entrepreneur, but along the way he proved a very astute business man, and apparently, a good business man, in all the meanings of the term.
I was employed by his company for a little while, and sailed with two excellent Masters, plus a First Mate who had been a prisoner of war. Alas, all three now not with us any more.
I never met Jack Billmeir, but reading again P M Heaton’s chapter on Jack Albert Billmeir:
Amongst other positions and honours:
CBE
Underwriting Member of Lloyds
Prime Warden, Shipwrights’ Comnpany
Hon. M A (Oxford)
Truly, one of our Greats in British shipowning.
What is the progress with the sequel to Merchant Fleets 1939?
Best wishes
Phil
