Passenger liner Accra, 9,337grt, (Elder Dempster Lines) had been sailing in the 37 ship Convoy OB-188 as the Vice Commodore ship which left Liverpool on the 23rd July 1940. The Accra was carrying over 300 passengers and a general cargo for Freetown and other West African ports. The Accra's Captain, 153 crew and 311 passengers were rescued by the following ships, Hollinside (British), the Loke (Norwegian), sloop HMS Enchantress and the Corvette HMS Clarkia. Conflicting information has between 19/24 passengers and crew lost when the motor lifeboat capsized in rough sea's. 7 crew members from the Accra are commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London on panel 2.
