Hello Markku,
long time since you last visited. As far as I have been able to determine, Greenling sank the 5857 tgr Army cargo ship Hiteru maru (alternative reading of the kanji: Ryufuku maru). If a second ship was hit, which appears doubtful, she remains unidentified. The attack was carried out on radar bearings and her PR claims 4 hits on one ship and one on a second ship, all results being estimated without visual confirmation.
IJN 116 is not a very reliable source at times, it was compiled mostly by memory and should be used with caution.
My personal opinion (stress personal) is that some torpedoes prematured or were end-of-run detonations. Achieving 4 hits on a single target would require an extremely tight spread, a target like a 5800-odd tgr vessel cannot exceed 120 m in length and it's an almost impossible achievement.
Based on Cdr Alden estimation, only Hiteru maru was hit that night and I have to concur with his opinion.
I have no Nissho maru of 2606 tgr in my database at all, I'll try to search through by tonnage but may take some time. If successful, I'll post again.
HTH,
good to hear from you, regards,
Brian
