Hello Walter and Ron,
I am afraid I do not agree with Ron: it is almost certain that ERIDANO was sunk at 0830/4 by HMS PERSEUS, the position given by Ron is correct (some reports also mention 6 miles -289° from C. Dukato), her only survivor reported that she torpedoed a ship at dawn on 3 December but he could easily have confused the dates. The attack by HMS TRUSTY was against a GRECALE class destroyer in 37°46 N/20°25 E and occurred at 1217/4. It could have been the torpedo-boat ORSA (which had a similar silhouette to GRECALE) which had sailed from Taranto at 2200/3 December for Suda Bay (Crete) where she arrived at 1520/5 December. However the attack was not observed and Lt. Cdr King reported the torpedoes missed, one of them circled and almost hit the submarine. King also heard 54 depth-charges at a distance. As far as I know no Italian destroyer reported attacking a submarine on that day in this area.
Best regards,
Platon
