Rampino sunk by Umbra?

The italian salvage vessel Rampino is usually listed as lost on 17/1/42 to an attack by the british submarine Umbra between Sousse (Tunisia) and Pantelleria island (Sicilian Narrows).

However: Rampino was never heard from after sailing from Tripoli for Trapani (western Sicily) at 1900 hrs of 14/1. It seems far-fetched that 56 hours later she would still be only in the southern part of the channel. Is there a better explanation for her disappearance and what did Umbra attack if it was not Rampino?

Thanks, Brian
