I wonder if someone can help me clear up a muddle in my head - I can't get anything to fit today. I'll try to give as much relevant info as I can:

I'm working on Convoy GUS 33, which left Port Said on March 5-1944 an arrived Hampton Roads on Apr. 4. This convoy had a number of ships leaving along the way, while new ones joined from various ports. On March 11, several ships joined from Augusta, one of them being a ship by the name of Nebraska. During the next 4 days, several ships left the convoy (some for Tunis, some for Algiers and Oran etc.) but Nebraska appears to have gone all the way to Hampton Roads, because she's not mentioned among the ships parting company along the way.

Uboat.net has a British Nebraska listed as sunk on Apr. 8-1944 on this page [www.uboat.net] She's said to have been dispersed from Convoy OS 71 on Apr. 4, and was southwest of Ascension Island when she was attacked by U-843 on the 8th - voyage information is given as Taranto-Gibraltar-Buenos Aires. According to Arnold Hague, Convoy OS 71/KMS 45 left Liverpool on March 14-1944 and split up on the 25th, with KMS 45 arriving Gibraltar on March 27, and the Freetown portion arriving there on Apr. 4. I can't get any of this to fit with Uboat.net's details for the sinking of this ship. Furthermore, I can't find her in OS 71 on Mike Holdoway's site [www.convoyweb.org.uk]. Also, if she joined Convoy GUS 33 from Augusta on March 11 (and never left - again, this convoy arrived Hampton Roads on Apr. 4), how could she have been in OS 71? I have a feeling I'm missing something, but I can't put my finger on it, so I'm utterly confused.

Or was there more than one ship by this name? I know there was an American Nebraskan, but the text for Convoy GUS 33 clearly states it was Nebraska.
