Dear all, (hello again to those who still rember me),
compared to ten years ago, when I got "laid up" for some time, it is really a big advantage to have a forum like this available. Therefore, first of all, congratulations and thanks to Siri and everyone else for making it happen!
Let me start again today with a puzzle around one of my old whale catchers below 100gt (those very easy to research on :-)):
In the Registro Italiano 1956 I have found a ship named ASSUNTA MADRE ex Delia, registered in Cagliari for Susnik Giovanni fu Valentino. The ship is 63.56gt/28.12nt, built at Akers MV, Oslo in 1892. From my archives I am 99,9% sure that this ship was originally the whaler INGOLFR, Akers building No.142, which spent his first years in Iceland, came back to Norwegian registry in 1912 and which was sold to Italy like a number of other whalers in 1916. Technical dimensions are very close. According to Mr. Selesneffs list in the Belgian Shiplover (from around 1968) INGOLFR became LIBECCIO in Italian Navy and served as a patrol boat.
The following I found in Lloyd's List some time ago and I thought it might be the same ship (as a lot of those old ships had a long career as civilian ships after WWI):
LL 18.05.1946:
Italian tug LIBECCIO was lost by war causes at Tripoli, Libia on Nov, 15, 1942.
However, RI1956 mentions that ASSUNTA MADRE ex DELIA did enter registry in 1932 and a major rebuilding in 1933. Therefore I assume that the first known (and registered) civilian name was DELIA, which means that she would not have been still LIBECCIO in 1942. Was there another Italian LIBECCIO? I have neither found any civilian or military vessel of that name.
Anyone able to contribute to this?
ASSUNTA MADRE is no more in RI 1962. Anyonone having access to other RI's in between to get her fate? Casualty/Demolition?
Any contributions appreciated!!
Regards, Axel
