Hello David,
Today I found your message on warsailors.com regarding the SS ALPHERAT. Do you know anything about this ship during 13-05-1942 and 04-08-1943, just a few month before it sunk?
My father in law has been the radio officer in that time, and we tried to find out where the Alpherat has been in that period.
Before he boarded the Alpherat he was radio officer on the ALCYONE, and they had a fatal collision with a mine near Cape Town on the 16-03-1942. All the crew members survived.Now I found he must have had a guarding angel on his shoulder by leaving the Alpherat on 04-08-1943, when he became radio officer on the ss Dominion Monarch.
