Hello,
I would like once more raise the problem sorted out here - [
www.warsailors.com]
The case seems indeed more complicated then we thought. In 'Die Deutsche Handelsflotte 1939-1945' by Hans Jurgen Witthoft I have found both HERMANN and SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN:
HERMANN -
4.2.42 nordostl. Alderney durch Feindeinwirkung gesunken
SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN -
3.8.42 nordostl. Alderney von engl. MGB versenkt
So we have bot vessels sunk on 1942 and not on 1943!
To complicate things further. On 3.II.1942 Polish destroyer KUJAWIAK with British ATHERSTONE engaged 2 German transport ships and escort ship near Alderney. All enemy ships were claimed damaged with possibility that some of them sunk. But also on 3/4.II.1943 Polish destroyer KRAKOWIAK with unknown British destroyer engaged enemy convoy near Cap de la Hague. So we have two battles ont the some day though different year!
I seriously doubt that HERMANN and SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN were sunk in 1943 battle since this is different place! In Theo notes we have - "auf Reise Alderney - Cherbourg". My guess is that both vessel were sunk in 1942 by KUJAWIAK and ATHERSTONE, while the victims of KRAKOWIAK are still not discovered!
Any comments?!
