Hello Siri,

Questions 3&4.
I think the actual reason for the convoy turning round was not because it was chased away, but because Bergen had been captured by German troops. According to the records they entered Bergen at 06.20 on 9th April 1940.

The only reference I have found so far to a Bergen convoy on that date is in Roskill's The Navy At War 1939-1945.

He states:- '. . . . .a convoy of 37 merchantmen which, thanks to the initiative of Captain J S Pinkney, the Master of one of the ships who was acting as Convoy Commodore,had got to sea from Bergen just before German forces arrived there. The whole convoy reasched British ports safely, from under the very noses of the enemy.
