According to German naval messages from Ultra material (German Enigma enciphered communications intelligence) in UK National Archives, UJ-1705 was attacked by six Blenheim bombers flying at low level and hit by bombs, apparently putting the engine out of operation ("engine defective", presumably translation of "kaputt"). UJ-1705 sank at 0507 (presumably Central European Daylight Time), 17 July 1943. UJ-1709 reported the loss and that it was picking up survivors. UJ-1709 reported the bomber attack and subsequent sinking in two messages broadcast on 3.658 kHz, the first drafted at 0435 (presumably Central European Daylight time) and transmitted at 0300 GMT (0500 CEDT). The second message, on the loss of UJ-1705, was drafted at 0510 and sent at 0328 GMT (0528 CEDT). British intelligence had the two respective messages decrypted and translated as of 1634 GMT and 1643 GMT that day.
The discrepancy between Beaufort fighters in an earlier post and Blenheim bombers may be a misidentification of aircraft on the German navy's part, as both aircraft were twin-engined of similar size and profile.
UJ-1709 transported the survivors to Bergen, Norway, arriving at 0945 CEDT, requesting an ambulance at Dokkeskjaer quay. UJ-1709 reported the location of the UJ-1705 at the time of its sinking as "6054/2 N 0442.9E", which I would presume to be 6054.2N 00442.9E, south of Fedje Island.
