Hello all,
at about 0000 hrs on the night of 4-5/7/1918, convoys GA-G36 and GA-G37, on opposing courses, ran headlong into each other in the Ligurian sea, off NW Corsica.
According to my info, Italian s/s Napoli was rammed and sunk by British s/s Lamington, Italian Ansaldo III was rammed by Swedish Otto Sverdrup and 2 other ships were in collision.
Of these ships, reportedly, only Napoli sank, Otto Sverdrup was towed into Oneglia by USS Castine, the other ships were able to continue.
My questions:
1) can someone identify the last 2 vessels in collision?
2) Napoli is not listed in Lloyd's war losses, what was her tonnage?
Regards to all,
Brian
